Description
From the book “The Collection: The Gothenburg Museum of Art”, Gothenburg 2014:
By combining objects according to the Surrealist principle of unexpected juxtapositions, Ingrid Orfali has created ambiguous, charged images. She works in a postmodern spirit with large-format colour photography. For example, she has photographed a lipstick inserted between the gaping jaws of a shark skeleton. The title The Sucker has overtones of breastfeeding, food, and eroticism, which contrasts with the image’s aggressive tone, with intense red set against black and white. Orfali’s art is notable for its interest in the image as an emblematic structure, where unexpected combinations result in disturbing and striking images.
