Description
Landscapes and wilderness featuring towering mountains and streams were recurring motifs in Hans Fredrik Gude’s work. His detailed and romantic landscapes made him an admired landscape painter in his native Norway. Gude was also a popular teacher in Düsseldorf in the 1850s. During his tenure as professor in Karlsruhe in the 1860s and 1870s, the city attracted many Nordic painters. Christian Krohg, Fritz Thaulow and Berndt Lindholm were among Gude’s students.
