Description
In the 1890s Liljefors painted a series of monochromes, so-called grisailles, which he often reproduced in newspapers and magazines. Whether this painting, Goshawk with Partridge, was meant to be reproduced is not known. The painting’s format rather suggests that it was an artistic experiment in a grey scale. In 1894 Liljefors writes to Pontus Fürstenberg that there are certain motifs that should preferably be rendered in monochrome.
