Description
From an early age, Bruno Liljefors was a nature lover who spent most of his time in the woods or by the sea. Hunting and fishing were his favourite activities. Liljefors had great success as an artist and early in his career he was supported by several important patrons, including Pontus Fürstenberg and Ernst Thiel. Financial success came after the turn of the 20th century and for the last 30 years of his life Liljefors was financially independent and one of Sweden’s most celebrated and successful artists. Liljefors kept the models for his paintings in a private zoo which included domesticated animals such as owls, wood grouse, grey partridges, pine martens, foxes and dabbling ducks. In addition to painting he also wrote a number of books and was an accomplished sports illustrator.
