Description
Wilhelm von Gegerfelt was active in the transition period from academic romantic landscape painting, with its roots in Germany, to the new en plein air painting, which was popularised in France. He was born in Gothenburg but spent much time abroad. Like several of his contemporary colleagues, he studied and worked in Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Paris and many other places in Europe. Von Gegerfeldt was the first Swedish artist to join the artist colony in Skagen, in 1874.
