Description
Leander Engström is one of the Swedish artists who brought modernism to Sweden. Scene from Lake Torne show an open landscape with water, occasional trees in autumn scrub and some mountains in the background. The air feels clear. The artist has worked with visible brush strokes and broken down the subject into pure colour touches and slightly cubic forms to anchor the subject to the surface. In this way, a play arises between image depth and decorative surface effect. Kristoffer Arvidsson
