Description
Girl Combing her Hair is in many ways typical of Nils Nilsson's painting style. Nilsson is counted among the Gothenburg colourists, whose expression is characterized by buoyant colour and expressive brush strokes. He regularly works with figures in rooms, often with a psychological charge around them. The paint is applied in large even surfaces. The colour range is often cool. A young woman stands in the middle of the room, dressed in white linen and skirt, combing her hair. Her movements form a rhythmic interplay in the picture, with her arms repeated and her hair drawing a wavy line next to the upturned head. To the left is a bright door that is parallel to the picture plane, on the floor a patterned carpet in red. The background is deep blue and contrasts with the bright girl. Kristoffer Arvidsson
