Description
Richard Mortensen was born in Copenhagen and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the early thirties. After he moved to Paris in 1947, Mortensen soon turned to non-figurative painting. During the fifties, Richard Mortensen developed a form of concrete art with more spontaneous shapes, creating a playful dynamic. Trévières is a good example with its brightly coloured fields against a violet background. The title is taken from the name of a commune in the Calvados department in the Lower Normandy region in northwestern France.
