The Arosenius Room (Room 26)
The Arosenius Room presents works by Ivar Arosenius, Gerhard Henning and Ole Kruse, who belonged to a bohemian circle in Gothenburg around the turn of the 20th century. At the back of the room, Ole Kruse’s monumental and symbolic painting The Tree of Life rises dramatically. Arosenius’s humorous yet melancholic works are unique within Swedish art. After the birth of his daughter Lillan in 1903, he left his bohemian life behind to live with his family—a shift reflected in his motifs. His struggle with haemophilia cast a dark shadow over this domestic idyll, and in 1909 the illness ended his life at an early age.
